ENG 297 - African American Literature3 credits
Prerequisite(s): A passing grade of D in ENG 102 or equivalent This course is a study of literature by representative African-Americans from the eighteenth century to the present. The course emphasizes the diversity of themes and techniques found in these works and examines the historical, cultural, literary, and philosophical forces that shaped these works and that are reflected in them. Students will demonstrate the ability to interpret the literature and to relate the works to their historical and literary contexts.
Note: Course may be used in Area V for AS/AA degrees
